Some confusion here.  The >trunnion< bushings (rubber bushings at the
intersection of the top of the kingpin and the outer end of the shock
arm) don't need to be reamed.  

The ones that need to be reamed are the >kingpin< bushings (bronze
sleeves that are pressed into the hubs where the kingpin passes
through).  And they really do have to be reamed, preferably with the
right tool.  If you manage to do a satisfactory job by honing, you've
been very lucky.  If your machinist does it in two passes and it works,
start doing burnt offerings, because you've just encountered a god.
