Phil,
What kind of a job are you looking for? What do you mean by "strip the car"?
Strip it down to bare metal or remove bumpers, windshield, etc.?

A shake and bake job will probably run around $1,000 - $1,500 depending upon
how extensive the paint work is. i.e. engine bay, door jambs, underside, boot.

If you're anal retentive, a figure of $5,000-$10,000 is more in line. This
would consider stripping to bare metal, doing necessary body work, remmoving
and restoring underside sound deadening material including rear wheel wells,
resealing all seams.

In my experience, most good body shops would require that they do all the prep
work, but you may find a shop that would allow you to do some or all yourself.

Some shops might quote you both ways. For example $1,500 we do sll the work or
$2,000 you do the prep work. :-)
