I've had success removing the needle (I guess that would be the trip arm?)
two ways. I was warned not to try to pull out the needle by its root by hand
or with pliers for risk of bending the needle. If you are lucky, you can
remove the 2 tiny screws from the face of the speedo and gently (very
gently!) wiggle the face upward. The needle will pop off. It takes a while
- be patient and do not pull outward too hard. The other way I've had
success is in using a fuel injector puller (little "L" shaped thing) behind
the chrome part of the needle base and pulling straight outward. Again, the
needle just pops out. The injector puller I have has a very thin claw, so I
was able to get it behind the needle base easily. The key is not to bend the
needle using either method.
