Just getting back to the real topic ( those jokes sound like they could come
from my father! )

BE VERY CAREFUL!!!!!!!!!!

I have an A15 engine with 5 speed gearbox. It was a very expensive and time
consuming modification which involved cutting the tunnel a LOT!

A bit of background, I bought the car with the engine already in it with a 4
speed gearbox. The guy sold me the 5 speed saying it had been in the car but
he had taken it out because it had a lot of bearing noise.
Because it has a datsun engine I take it to a datsun specialist who is just
round the corner from me ( Datsun Brunswick, ask for Chris the owner. These
guys are GOOD and very helpful. They also run a wrecking business so you can
get parts from him as well ). I asked him about the gearbox. He got the 5
speed reconditioned for me and attempted to put it in. He was just getting
ready to pull the engine when the keen mechanic senses kicked in and he
rechecked all the clearances. Guess what? It didn't fit. Had NEVER been in
this car before.
Luckily ( maybe ) he has a company buy lots of datsun parts for modifying
english cars ( mainly Triumphs ) and he suggested that they could fit it. At
that point I just wanted my car back soon so I said yes.
A week and $2500 later I had a new 5 speed gearbox. And they knocked a fair
bit from the price. They were also very helpful with dealing with a stupid
young lad who didn't know a lot ( but I am learning ). Their name is General
and Sporting Automotive ( I am fairly sure thats right ). They seemed quite
happy to give advice and their workshop is full of english cars being
modified.

BTW the 5 speed gearbox that I have is very rare and hard to get. With the
ratios between 4th and 5th so close together I am not sure it is worth the
hassle ( my 4 speed died so I had to do something ). It doesn't seem to make
a huge difference on the highway.
