Greetings all-

My name is Stu, and I'm a LBCaholic. I've been a fan of
LBCs, especially Bugeye Sprites, for as long as I can
remember. As yet, I don't have an LBC of my own, but that
will not be the case for very long. I've been considering
finding a Bugeye to join (or, hopefully, replace) my Miata
for a couple of months now. My father called me today and
said that a good friend of his has a Bugeye, and that after
seeing the care with which I treat my Miata, his friend
would rather see the Bugeye living in the care of a real
enthusiast for the type rather than sitting in storage.
So, it looks like I'm finally going to have my own LBC.

I have a couple of questions for the list wisdom, but I
need to preface them with what little I know about the
car right now:

* it is definitely a Bugeye, either a '59 or '60. The guy
doesn't really remember which.

* it is partially basket-cased. AFAIK, the bonnet is
present, but off of the car. The top fabric will probably
need replacement, but the car is said to be in otherwise
good condition with little rust. I know, I know, you've
all probably heard /that/ story a thousand times. As the
owner is a close friend of the family, though, and fairly
mechanically inclined, I don't view this with too much
skepticism.

* when it was put into storage (don't remember how long
my dad said it'd been in), the engine still ran fine. No
guarantees whether or not it is still a viable mill.

The owner isn't interested in making money on the car; he
just wants it to go to a good home at a fair price. If
that price is the cost of trailering it home, that's fine
with him. Hopefully, I'll be able to see the car next week
so that I can make a decision on whether or not this is the
one for me.

So then, my questions:

1) Assuming that the car is in good condition, as described,
and the engine runs, what /is/ a fair price for this?

2) If the car is fairly cancer-free, but doesn't run, what
then?

I'd appreciate any thoughts you all might have.. Whether or
not this is the one, I can't /wait/ to have a Spridget of my
own!

-Stu
