Rich,  Nope that's the way you do it.  If you don't drive it very much then
don't oil them, just clean them.  We wouldn't want to get the engine dirty
on the outside, would we?  If you don't oil them don't worry it doesn't help
that much.  Really all they do is keep the "big chunks" out anyway.  If the
reason you want to clean and oil them is to protect the inside of your
engine, forget it.
