Not sure what the law is, but When I drove my Bugeye as a dailey driver
both here and in Salinas, I was never sited for not having bumper (speeding
yes, bumper no). My current Bugeye has been eyed frequently by SFPD, but
I've never been stopped for anything. Frankly, I was more worried about
driving around in full race dress, including 18" high numbers on both doors
and on the hood, but it's never been a problem.
I believe that front bumpers were an option, though I think most came with
them, so that would be the truth. Of course, all you need to point out that
a bumper at that height would do absolutely nothing for you... especially
these days! Don't ask Bryan about this...'-)
