H Guys
Day 5 and we find the rally in Greece. Overall the Claridge-Ware Morley-Ham
Lagonda still leads sharing joint first place with the Park Ward Bentley of
Mr. and Mrs. Brown. The DB6 of Pope and Reddyhough leads the classic
competitors, Everyone lost time in the beginning of the is stage due to the
downtown traffic and a late ferry! The Facel of Powel and Pianim is now in a
comfortable joint 5th place with an Alvis Grey Lady, what a great event,
where else would a sporting hybrid of a car with an English engine compete
with a grand old duchesse of a car like the Grey Lady.
Down in 16th spot we have the Onyett and Dyke-Price Healey, the second Facel
is now in a mid field 31st position, The Spurlings Morgan is chasing hard
trying to make up some time in 32nd position. That traffic and the Greek
ferry captain must have a lot to answer for!
The Hunts Healey seems to have found a new lease on life and has pulled back
almost 90 minutes to end the day in 41st position. they are closely followed
(5 mins behind) the Filmore brothers in their Jaguar XK140. The MGB is also
still in there battling with the big boys 3 minutes behind the Mercedes 230
SL of the Rolphs. Tomorrow is the first rest day and the first time to
fix/repair and check the cars in preparation for day 6.
Julia is still with the Rolls and is apparently missing her young son, plus,
she has to curl up under the blankets on the back seat of the Rolls at each
border crossing as she still has no passport. Her only means of
identification (her credit card is now broken in half because of the
contorted position she has to adopt in the back seat.
This rally seems to have it all. From The adventurous Julia to the serious
rally contender, people battling the odds with little or no budget and
humble cars, Morris Minors and Mini's to high dollar Rolls Royce and
Packard's. With several teams doing it all just for charity and because it
seemed like a great thing to do, Team Healey being one such team. Several
car are no having parts shipped out to meet the cars along the way. I think
before much longer some midnight oil is going to have to be burnt just to
keep these car going, and with the worse roads in the world coming up it is
going to be very interesting for the mechanics.
Regards
John J Black (looking forward to fixing Team Healey in the USA)
