There is an "O" ring and a paper gasket behind the axle.
That is the forged end of the axle and it is attaced (as in one piece)
to the axle. The 1 screw holds it in place but so do the 4 lug nuts when
the wheel is on. The 1 screw just holds it there if the wheel is off.
RTV is a temporary fix. New o rings and paper gaskets are available from
all the suppliers on the list. Even from suppliers not on the list but
why would you go there?
And if you need them tomorrow, I have them on the shelf.
You know how to get in the garage, just replace them as soon as you can.
I snap axles semi annually that's why I keep a spare set or two.
It's supposed to be nice tomorrow, I have nothing planned, I could meet
you or even take a ride to your place.
The only thing I have happening is a guy is supposed to look at my new
truck so he can letter it. I want to talk to him about maybe a Bugeye
leaping out of the tail gate. I have not heard from him yet, he said
"over the weekend" but I'd rather drive.
