Disconnect the battery, take a heavy wire and connect it to the field
terminal of the generator. (the small terminal) Arc the other end of the
wire across the hot side (pos) 3 or 4 times, remember you are not
welding, just flipping the electric field on some windings inside the
generator.
A few quick arcs should do it.
