you silly rabbit!
corvair rims of the 13" variety fit spridget centers after you reverse the
rim and weld up the valve stem hole and redrill the valve stem hole on the
outside again. firstyear corvair rims are riveted and easy to take apart.
second year of production were welded and are a bit more work to cut apart.
early 13"corvair rims are 5" wide and you can adjust offset before tack
welding and then burning together. spot weld by tig if at all possible to
reduce distortion after truing wheel's run out. then burn together with
what ever you feel confident with holding together(keep tigging or mig or
arc). i have a set of these early cheater rims for show with treaded dunlop
racing tires mounted. if you are going racing do not forgetto cut off the
hub cap studs by die grinding the peened over inner ends and driving out
with a punch(it will reduce unsprung weight, it is an aparent insignificant
weight but will add up ). btw! most sanctioning bodies frown upon or
prohibit these home made rims from competition. so if yer gonna do it do it
in an undetectable fashion, or have a professional wheel shop do the
fabrication for you. they do look real neat though!!!!!!!
