head studs number 10 and 11

Has anyone tried to drill and tap the threads for the extra head studs for
an 'S' type 12G 940 head?  Are they normally the same type thread as the
rest of the studs, as the torque figure is less.  Any potential screw-ups?
Why is there a separate cover gasket for the 'S' heads listed in some books?
