Ah what a great saturday. We met for a rally this morning about 10am, with
probably about 40 cars. I got to see another bugeye! which was very
exciting since I've only seen 3 total in person (including mine). About a
quarter after 10 we left for the mountains, James and I doing the easy rally
since I had to work at 3:30 in downtown Denver. So we left the park and got
a mere 3 miles before the rally route was wrong due to a road closure. The
other people seemed to know what they were doing so we followed them for a
bit. By the time we got to the highway into the mountains our faith in the
directions was pretty low. But we kept going, looking desperately for exit
242. By the time we got to mile marker 242 we realized that it was supposed
to be exit 252, and that there was a typo. So we just headed up to the lake
(check point) following some other people who knew where it was. Once we
finally reached the checkpoint my car was extremely unhappy, running at 3000
rpms in neutral and the fuel pump clicking quite loudly, and she was not
thrilled to learn that because of the road closure and misprint we had to go
back down the way we came up. So we turned around and headed immediately to
the gas station before getting back on the highway. Once she cooled off for
a few and got some more of her beloved gasoline she was running just fine,
though the fuel pump is still a little louder than it used to be. We made
it to the finish without incident and stayed in the parking area of a casino
for a bit before heading home. Everyone seemed to like my bugeye and the
other bugeye owner was quite jealous that he'd payed the same amount as I
had, but spent a lot of time and money before it was in as good of shape
(and I'm not being cocky here, I'm not the one who put in hours of blood
sweat and tears restoring this car, I don't care which one is nicer, I just
want mine to run well and look nice). Many of the fellas there were quite
impressed with the deal that I got (thank you again RH). Well I didn't make
it into the group picture because I had to come to work, and I forgot my
sunscreen this morning, so I'm a crispy critter this afternoon! Tomorrow is
the car show! I'm actually excited, to think 3 months ago I went to my
first ever car show, and now I'm entering a car, so strange so strange.
Mark, if your still going I'll be the super sunburnt girl in a (probably
white) tank top! Hope to see you there.
