    You can't go with engine size for speed, its very possible that a 
smaller engine makes a car go faster than a bigger engine.  You would hope 
that is not the case but engine size is not everything.  A friends 600cc 
motorcycle is far faster than my 750cc in 0 to "fast enough to kill 
yourself" speed but my 750 has more power left at the top end so it has a 
higher top speed.

   Its all in engine design and gearing and power to weight ratios.  Due to 
design, some engines rev quicker than others, thats all.  And by the way, 
its not harder for me to accept that a 1500cc is quicker than a 1275, I 
just don't know I have never driven either one.
