The mid-70s Spridgets had a 3.9 rear end, which is what
is coming into play for any factory claim of 100mph. (see my
last email about road test cars creeping into redline for
a bit more speed)

For the built cars that are doing 100mph, likely the
redline has been considerably boosted by an uprated valve
train. (and the owners willingness to just accept
the risk)

The last of the 1500 Spridgets had a 3.7 rear end, so
this made the top speed even more comfortable although
longer to get to.

I have a 3.9 rear end in my 1500, but with the overdrive
engaged it's the equivalent of about 3.15. Most people
with five speeds probably get the same effect when
in fifth.

...not that I would drive my spridget at 100mph for
any length of time, if at all. That's just pretty damn
fast for a car that small. ;>
