MG World is going to have another 'Design an MG' competition, and full
details will be published in the magazine that will be out in November.
Why am I giving you this news so far in advance? The simple answer is
that - for reasons I cannot divulge - the prize giving ceremony - care
of MG Rover - will be held just before Christmas at Longbridge. This
means that the time available for entries to be completed and sent in
will be tight. It seems therefore only logical to give some of you a
head start, if you're keen.
The rules are likely to be as follows:
COMPETITION RULES
With the future of MG now firmly assured, there is clearly scope to
consider expanding the family beyond the MGF. MG Rover has already
announced plans to introduce a new range of sporting MG saloons in 2001,
whilst embarking on exciting co-operative ventures that will see a
return to Le Mans in June 2001 and the possibility of range-topping
supercar the year after that. We would like you to consider how the
company might design a new MG sports car to sit at the bottom of the
price range - a latter-day successor to the much-loved MG Midget. Whilst
the exact details of the car are up to you, we would like it to be a
modern rather than an overtly retrospective design, with the intention
of bringing truly affordable open-air motoring to the market-place. The
rules are as follows:
Entries should include the following:
1. The design brief is for a modern interpretation of the MG Midget for
2003, with smaller proportions than the MGF
2. Entries should be presented on A3 or A2 paper and should show at
least one three-quarter view of the exterior
3. A written description of no more than 500 words should support the
entry
4. Full name, address and daytime telephone number (fax and email if
available)
5. For entrants under 21, their age
Peter Stevens has kindly agreed to judge the entries and select a
short-list of the ten he considers best meets the brief. These ten
finalists will each receive prizes and will be invited at short notice
to attend a special event at Longbridge, where they will be able to see
the MGF production line and meet MG Rover's Design Director Peter
Stevens. The winning entry will be announced on the day, and the winner
will receive a special first-place prize to be presented by Peter.

Peter Stevens, MG Rover Group Limited and MG World will not enter into
any correspondence concerning individual designs, which must be
submitted purely on the understanding that they are for the purposes of
the competition alone
The closing date of the competition will be announced in the
December/January issue of MG World. Entries received after that date
will not be considered
MG World accepts no responsibility for entries; proof of posting is not
proof of receipt Please enclose adequate return postage and packing if
you require
your work to be returned. Entries submitted without return postage and
packing will be kept for one year after the closing date and then
destroyed
The judges' decision is final MG World and MG Rover Group reserve the
right to reproduce entries in whatever form they see fit.
