I finally picked up a MK III Hardtop from Tom Shirley last Friday, Thanks
Tom. I am now in the process of tracking down the rubber parts. The front
rubber looks just like the new piece that I put on my soft top and available
from the usual suspects. The side and rear weather-strip is a little
different. There have been references to J.C. Whitney for the side welting
and weather-strip but I haven't found anything for the rear where it sits on
the raised body. Any ideas or suggestions would be appreciated. In some of
the posts regarding the J.C. Whitney parts it was mentioned that there was
enough material to do a couple of tops, if anybody has leftovers that you
want to sell let me know.
The top has the angle mounts attached to the top but my car doesn't have the
pieces that attach to the top frame screws. I don't think that it would be
much of a problem to make them if knew what they look like. None of my
books show this part so again any help would be nice.
The top is in pretty good shape except for a few stress cracks in the top
layer of glass. I have repaired similar cracks on my boat using West System
epoxy and suitable fillers, anybody see any reason I couldn't apply the same
process to the hardtop?
