Hi List,

My Huffaker stub axle arrived today. This is a competition stub axle, (I
think you guys and gals call them spindles) which is standard stub axle with
the axle pin removed and a new quality (4130?) steel pin pressed and welded
in place of it. It wasn't exactly cheap but I only have one life and one car
and the one on the car is old. How likely is a standard one that is 30 years
old, to break? I have no idea even if you do use the spacer, but when you
have experienced lateral gee force at just over a 100mph in a road going
Sprite you tend to think about these things from time to time, along with an
image of the chisel marks (stress risers) from the last time the hub was
removed.

The quality of the job looks to be excellent and I just need to get some ARP
bolts for the disc to hub spacer and hub, a countersink for the lockwiring
holes I driled in the AN bolts, a reamer, and not least some good weather
before I can go ahead to fit it.

Not least special thanks to Paul A for sorting me out a core (and an address
so I could buy a Tuck Jones bolt drilling jig) which I still haven't paid him
for (I do keep reminding him) though if anyone wants an aluminium alloy MG
Metro single 1.75 carb manifold for what I owe Paul let me know (I think this
works out to about the going rate).

AND in case anyone is wondering why I went to Huffaker it is because I don't
think Don Racine at MM is my pal anymore (Speak to me Don) and the WC plain
simply never replied to my e-mail.

For the passenger side I have what is probably the last ever NOS spindle and
I will gladly sell it for the price of another Huffaker item.
