You are not supposed to use Copper for brake lines because it work hardens 
and thus breaks.  In the UK Copper brake lines are however, fairly common and 
some of the brake lines on my car are copper lines that must be over 10 years 
old and have given no trouble.  All the more recent lines are copper-nickel 
which does not work harden so easily (at all?) while still being more 
corrosion resistant than tinned steel.
