Charles and a few have got it right, but I'm not sure some others
have it.

When you are repeatedly bidding last minute and getting outbid,
it's because someone has put in a much higher maximum bid (proxy
bid) that automatically keeps covering your small increments. You
can play the same game knowing your high proxy bid will not
necessarily be the money you will have to spend. You will spend a
buck or two more than what someone else bids against you, unless
of course they outbid you.

I find its next to impossible to win by putting in small
increments during the last few minutes.

Like Charles says you gotta need that item more than the other
guy. But what I can't understand why sometimes brand new Moss
parts auction off for more than what Ed quotes. (Ed, u should be
chasing down these suckers.)
