I had a similar problem on my 69 Sprite for a few weeks. I had attached the
PCV line directly to the intake through a restrictive hose and every time
about 5 minutes past start up, it would smoke like a banshee for about 30
seconds and run really bad, then it would go away. It was ALLOT of smoke. I
installed a real PCV valve and that fixed it. The theory that I came up with
was that oil at a certain temperature and certain thickness could make it's
way up with oil separator and hose and back into the intake. Only a
theory... but the smoke was pretty impressive. Very good smoke screen.
