I know this has been said many times in the past, but I just had an
experience that has opened my eyes a bit, and may make others think
twice about purchasing major items in any of the internet auction sites.

Last November, a friend of mine bought a ribcase transmission from a
seller in Arizona. My friend lives in Northern Wisconsin. The trans
was described to be in good working condition. After shipping costs the
final price paid was in the +$200 range.

Well, after he recieved it, he stored it away, planning on using it this
spring in his vintage race Bugeye Sprite. After he took the side cover
off, it was obvious this tranny was trash. Second gear had literally
five or six "teeth" on it, the rest broken off. The laygear was equally
toasted.

I know, its a buyer beware world, and he should have inspected it as
soon as he got it, but he didnt and now there isnt much he can do.

We chalked this one up as an expensive learning experience.
