I have a set of pistons out of a 356 Porsche that I want to give to a friend
of mine who is a big fan of air cooled Porsches (the spyder specifically).
During one of my runs to Arizona for 210 trannys and just general junkyard
scouring I found them laying on the passenger seat of a 356. They are pretty
shot and very grimy. Short of giving them to the machine shop to boil them
out, is there anything I can do to make them shine, and stay shiny?
I did boil them in a pot of water to get the dirt off, which helped allot...
but is there anything I can boil them in on a kitchen stove that would help?
Simple green? Hand cleaner?
I could also sand blast them... but this might pit them.
Or just wire brush and paint thinner and a few hours... was trying to avoid
that.
I was thinking of putting a coat of clear paint (forget the name) on them
once they were cleaned up as well.
My old 1275 block would make a cool coffee table. Well at least the base of
a coffee table. Nice piece of Plexiglas epoxied to it and some kind of
stable stand to bring it up a lil off the ground.
