This reminds me of the recent Speedvision program on safety. They 
interviewed a safety engineer who worked on Indy cars. As he said, in 
the early days after a big crash in practice or qualifying, you just 
rolled the car right side up and went looking for a new driver for 
the race. Nowadays after a shunt, your driver simply runs back to the 
pits and gets in the back-up car.
