Hi Mike,
I would say you were using the wrong materiel. They should have some that says
oil, gas, resistant that is a dark tan or light brown in color. Also avoid over
tightening as this will destroy many gaskets, correct materiel or not. In this
case, I would say no aviation cement should be used. Do it dry.
