Robert,

Solder. It can probably be done in the car depending on your skill, but
you'll need to drain it a ways otherwise the water will prevent you from
getting it hot enough. It would be best to flow the solder with the pipe
vertical, but if you can keep the temperature even all around and not too
hot, you should still be able to do it. I would get the tank side heated
evenly first as it won't take much to flow the pipe.
