In case anyone has not read the "British Car" april/May issue, this is what
they said about the impulse type Tach,---------These tachs, labeled "RVI"
--------- "use the magnetic field generated in the battery
side of the coil primary circuit to trigger the pickup in the tach". That's
why there is a loop on the back of the instrument or sometimes inside the
unit. The pulse or signal generated from the electronic units is quite a bit
different than the one generated by points, and so the tach does not
work.According to the article , sometimes this can be corrected by adding
more loops . OR, again according to the article, get hold of a
"direct-connected" type tach which have "RVC" on the face. These connect to
the points side of the coil with a white wire with a black tracer. On my
Bugeye , with the RVI type tach and regular points, the wire runs from the
ign switch , through the loop, then to the coil. THis wire , on mine at least
, is all white. Hope this helps.
By the way, this magazine should be on everyones reading list,---Bob C
