No I haven't ordered the spring kit.
The case of my starter is cruded up but this is the best of what I can read
LUCAS
2551(?)D 8 58
G428L# 12V

I checked in my blue loose-leaf factory manual which says the car (67 TR 4A)
uses a M.418.G starter. The illustration does look an awful lot like the
starter I took out.

The Vicky Brits part number for the kit, which includes two bushings and the
spring is 8-4361. This is the light weight spring between the starter and the
pinion, not the heavy one at the end. The kit costs 39.95 and an entire
rebuilt starter is $134.95. Clearly the spring set doesn't make much sense.
What is the deal on gear reduction starters?
Let me know if you can help.

I am also in need of new duplex sprockets and a timing chain for the 1275 I
am rebuilding.

I am not at all adverse to keeping business within the list.

In fact I think that the listers who are in the business are doing a great
service to us amateurs.

Thanks
