My experience with boats is that stainless does rust, particularly with salt
water, but it usually is surface rust, that comes off with some good metal
polish and a little rubbing.  To me that gun looked like it was underwater
for a while, but would have probably cleaned up pretty good with a number of
products.

I think "stainless" steel will rust pretty quickly in salt water.  Is the 
seller coastal?
