There you have it, toyperson!

As can be seen from replies from fellow
listers, there are so many variables that
"normal" encompasses an arc about
5 nautical miles wide!!

The guys in Jersey, NY, LA and London
or engulfed in metro traffic situations
get a helluva lot of excercise driving a
stick shift!! They have many, many more
shifts per mile than a guy driving the
Blue Ridge mountains and similiar areas.

And it is "tougher" on the mechanicals
as you DO have to keep up with traffic
(0-60 "sprints") or you DO become an
"obstruction" to all in the morning or
evening commuter "rush". So, no matter
how smooth your technique, you are gonna get accelerated wear and tear,
"relative" to your country cousins!!

I used to enjoy the Metro driving "action"
back when I was working in NYC as
a rising, young junior exec. with Lorillard
driving my MGA's into the city from Stamford. Today, I have no use for
this
at all!! (Yech!). But it was fun back then!!

I would advise an upgrade to the "roller"
throwout bearings, though. "Action" is
relatively smoother and the whole assembly will last a lot longer,
especially
in heavy, slower moving traffic conditions
wherein driving with the pedal depressed
a great deal of the time simpy cannot be
avoided.
