Kind of funny, but my P-car has both a belt and a chain!  The belt runs from
the crankshaft to the exhaust cam shaft, and it has a chain between the
intake and exhaust cam shafts.  I know they did this so the same belt system
would fit both the single and double overhead camshaft engines, and they
were succussful in that goal.  However, in my car, the timing belt is good
for 30-45k miles and has to be adjusted every 15k, and the timing chain is
expected to be good for over 100k, but nobody really knows for sure.  Just a
data point.
