dash light grounding

The small metal light sockets that go into the back of the gages, these seem to
ground to the gage itself, having only one lead. Is it a good/bad idea to go
ahead and solder an individual ground lead to the metal body while i have the
dash out/apart? Im thinking it would ensure a good ground connection, something
im not sure will happen if it grounds only through a 2 coated PORed metal dash?
Any advice is appreciatted- THanks-Josh
