the two bumps were there to space the battery out from the firewall to try
to keep the terminals from shorting out on the firewall.   it was not some
asthetic thing at all.  i have repaired evry one i have had to weld up or
fabricate a plate for.   look closely at how close a battery terminal is to
the edge of a battery when affixed.  now imagine having the terminals atthe
rear of the battery nextto the firewall.   the chance of shorting out on the
firewall is very real.

any reason not to just cut out the bump outs all together and weld a flat
piece of steel in there? Is it a depth clearance thing or? purely asthetic?
