Most of the firewall holes are due to battery corrosion from the posts
being too close to the fire wall.
The cure is to use a battery with the post on the other side away from
the wall. Of course this will cost you points on a concours car but it
will save your firewall.
Repairing the holes with metal is a good thing. Just get the "incorrect"
battery to avoid future holes.
