Listers,

I hate to get the attention off the SUV bloodie
battle, but I have a legitimate question.

It concerns my battery..I took my 99 Grand Am to
Dallas this last weekend, it is about a 3-4 drive
from where I live. Upon getting into Dallas I
stopped at a convient store for gas and a stretch.
After I got gas, I pulled up to the store and went
inside,,after I got in my car to leave, it wouldnt
start.( It has never done this before).

All it would do is make "clicking"
noise,,I let it set for a few minutes and tried
again to no avail. Upon seeing me in distress
and a confused look on my face checking my battery
and battery cables,,which did look like they could
have used a cleaning (which is some more help I
could use which is best method for keeping them
cleaned) a couple of guys came over to help me and to
see if they could fix the problem..they pulled over
in their TRUCK and proceeded to use my jumper cables
to jump me off--WITHOUT starting their car. Ok,,
I let them try all they wanted and finally they
just couldnt figure out why it wouldnt start and
I didnt have the heart to tell them..then someone
else came along and got my car started, we let
it idle and run for a while,,we went by and got
a new battery..

After I got home, I went to the shop where I purchased
my battery, as it was still in warranty.
They checked it, they said it showed it was ok..
but yet it wouldnt hold a charge and as sooon
as you turned the ignition off and then tried to
start it again, it wouldnt start. It would only
make the clicking noise.

I was between a rock and a hard place. I had to
buy the new battery to get me home,,but even though my
car couldnt keep it charged they didnt want to refund
the money I paid for the old one,as it was still
covered by the warranty..

So what do you think my problem is or was? I dont
want to make that mistake again and be on the road
traveling,,NOT SAFE.

I am confused as to why the battery showed it was
good, but it would NOT hold the battery charge,
but the new battery is operating just great.

I could use any input here..

TIA
Bree!
