Bugeyes had a flat cloth covered unpadded dash. There was a cowling across
the front of the cockpit that was covered in the same cloth as the dash and
utilized nickel plated screws to hold it on. No padding there either.
Sounds like this is a 1098 Mark II Sprite or Mark I Midget dash. I know the
Mark III Sprite dash was curved and had no padding or cloth at the bottom.
The cowling across the top was rubber padding and not fabric. The dash also
was metal. Mark IV was similar to Mark III and the Mark III Midget looked
like the Mark IV Sprite. It did have a package shelf. Bottom line, you seem
to have a rare and unusual DIY project by the DPO. Not an unusual sight in t
hose days.
