I remember these little device"i"....had one on my original BE
distributor vacuum
line....back in high school...never knew back then what the hell it was
for....but it came on my '58. 

Can't recall whether my '74 might have had one of these as well before
it got it's
competition mechanical dizzy on it's
"new", "tuned" motor.

The same confusion exists on the later
timing cover "flame arrester", which is
also called an "oil separator" keeping
the liquid "in" and allowing the vapor (crankcase pressure) "out".
