Responding to myself here... According to one of the Faspec guys, the gray
coating is called "Parkerize" and is similar to the camshaft coating. "My"
machinist believes it's good stuff.

on the OD. The size is within +/- .001" diameter as the plated ones I'm
replacing (because of pitting, and I scratched some during removal).
Does anyone have good/bad experience with similarly finished pistons? Should I
return them and get plated ones (and from where)? Thanks.
