Hello Paul,

ok, i took off the dizzy to check for resistance in the wires..
about 3 ohms each---- no tracking marks inside, it all looks to
be in top condition... did the DARK thing, no stray "blue
       lights under the hood.. BUT--------------

when i had the cap off the dizzy, i noticed that the wire from
the grommet thingy to the points had the insulation worn thru
from where the rotor had been rubbing it! gee, think the spark
was going to ground there? ....DUH!!!!!!!

i hadn't bothered to open the dizzy before because i was going
to install the pertronix this week anyway...

i put several wraps of electrical tape around the wear point,
turned the lug over, to get the wire path AWAY from the
rotor... i'll take a drive later today and see... but i (want
to) believe i found the problem...

THANX to all for advice and assistance..
