It's a good question, Bill...

I'm not qualified to make a judgement
and I don't really know the answer. What
I would do is check with a third tach. For
instance, I would use my mechanic's tach
if I found myself in the position you seem
to be in.

What else I do when faced by such a
situation is to call upon the experts who
know how the PerTronix HED would affect
different types of tachometers.

One thing is also for sure.......after
checking both tachs with a third tach and
finding the third matching the former two
(which match each other) I would begin
thinking I screwed up in my figures or
formula for that "timed" mile and would
definitely re-check my inputs along with
use of formula for that timed mile.

Another way of checking this out would
be to install a rev limiter (works
independent of the tach.). Set the rev-limiter to a specified number
(say,
6,000rpm) and see what the tach(s) read
when the limiter begins doing it's thing.
