It is not just a piece of steel. It is hardened (tempered?)
But I guess regular ole steel would work til you hit something in the 
road and bent it.
I did snap a rear Swaybar on my Bugeye a few years back.
Addison made good for it and asked me what the hell I did to snap it.
I told them I hit a pot hole. I did, a good one but not deep enough to 
swallow a Bugeye.
