I am wondering if the dizzy is off a tooth or the dizzy drive gear is in 
a tooth off, then the timing when taken off the #1 plug is really being 
taken off #3 (or whatever) thus giving you a false reading.
We did move the dizzy quite a bit before we got it to fire.
Just my thoughts. I don't know 1500s but if it were an A series, this 
would be the problem.
