Greetings to all and sundry!
I hope the temperate weather holds out till Turkey Day; I intend to actually
drive down to the Museum of Science and Industry on T-Day this year for the
annual gathering at the Rock. For those of you unfamiliar with the landmark,
it seems that there is a rock on the west side of the museum with a plaque
on it to commemorate the first automobile race in America on T-Day of 1895.
Seems that Charles Duryea won the race which ran from there up to Evanston
and back in the snow with a blazing average speed of 7mph. A number of guys
from the Chicagoland MG Club as well as some hotrod groups and some
motorcycle clubs show up there every year to show that they can get out of
doing any cooking. Some pictures on our website from last year at

But that is not why I am posting this. The real reason is that I am
flagrantly flouting al of the KISS principles (such as they are) this
winter. I am currently in process of installing the Phantom Grip conversion
in my differential. All is going relatively well, with the exception of the
shaft through the spider gears. I did not notice upon disassembly that there
were flats (presumably for lubrication purposes) on that shaft, therefore I
did not notice whether those flats faced towards the crown gear or away from
it. Haynes and Bentley both ignore that concept, so I figured one of you has
been there done that and can tell me which way to put it. I am sure that
either way I guess will be wrong...
