Thread-topic: How to setup the timing on a 1500 mg midget
You'll need to get yourself a timing light, and an external tach makes
things easier as well, so you don't have to keep ducking into the
cockpit to check engine speed.

First, get the idle speed close to spec (about 700-800rpm, IIRC, but
check your manual to be sure.) Then, hook up the timing light to the
battery (for power) and the #1 spark plug (for the signal). Aim the
light at the crankshaft pulley ann you should see the slot in the pulley
line up with a mark on the numbered scale on the timing chain cover.
Rotate the dizzy until the pulley mark lines up with the correct timing
spec in your manual (usually 10 degrees BTDC for UK, early US, and
de-smogged cars, 2 degrees ATDC for fully smogged cars). At this point,
be happy you have a 1500, as you're not crawling under the car to set
the ignition timing! ;)

If your timing was way out, you may have to re-set the idle speed, and
then go back and double check the timing again.

Next step is to adjust the fuel mixtyre at the carb. Here, I defer to
the more knowledgeable, as I've never worked with Webers.

Hello,

No, actually, it now works well, but it is running rich, and I am trying
to
do a tune up. I already did the valve adjustement and checked my
electrical
part, and as far as I understand, I still need to check the advance
before
seting up the carb (webber)...

Regards, cyrulle
