dave,
on balancing. while the spin balancing is preferred try buying yourself a
bubble type of static balancer. a box of stick on weights and you can do
balancing at home to your hearts content! i have a "mac tools" model wich
i use quite often. my saab wheels (wich i have a custom made adapter for)
are the large bolt pattern like the old VW bugs had. the tire places are
not interested in trying to get them on their machine as the lug bolts
center the wheels . i have balanced a custom set of corvair reverse rims
on bugeye centers and the results were fine! get rid of the agrivation
with incompetence and do it yourself.
my local tire shop at one point told me that the painted (or in some cases
stick on ) dot on a performance tire did not indicate a preferred location
adjacent to the valve stem for optimum balance. and at one point was not
paying attention to directional rotation of directional tires and mounted a
set of 4 left tires!

chuck.
"have trailer will travel! LOL! :)
