Well, doing a Google search for "cal custom beetle nerf bars" let me know
that nerf bar is now the term used for the chrome or stainless side steps for
pick up trucks and SUVs.

I did find a cool parts source called Doghouse.  It's VW parts, but they have
a great looking flip top gas cap for $29!  They have VW nerfs, but only the
single verticle bar that curves up from under the front...looks like it might
bolt up to a Spridget, but I want a little more protection than that.

The nerfs I remember are like (___[]______[]___) but with a bart top and
bottom and holes in the verticle bits for mounting.  Sorry I couldn't come up
with
a better description.
