Terry Horler's book, "Original Sprite & Midget, The Restorer's Guide to all
the Austin-Healey and MG models 1958-79" reveals the following info about
Alternators.

Alternator replaced dynamo in the home market on body GAN5-128263, December
1972. Intro 12V588 type engine. page 116.

By engine 12V67121 on the North America 8:0,1 engine 9570, July 73, the
alternator was changed from Lucas 16 to Lucas 17, page 117

An alternator replaced the dynamo in the Australia market, it is thought,
from chassis number YGN4-1000 in April 1969. The alternator used an
external control box, fitted to the bulkhead panel in the same position as
the dynamo control box. pg 106.

Had to laugh at this entry. . .
GAN5-123731 July 72 - Steering wheel spokes slotted to prevent the
irresistible urge to stick a finger in the previous holed spokes -- and
become stuck!

Don't put your fingers where they shouldn't be, guys!
