Here in the South West of the USA, it is common, especially in older cars
(new ones seem to have more sun resistant materials... and they are newer!)
to have the top surface of the dashboard to crack - too much sunshine and
harmful rays! To prevent that (or hide it once it happened!), you buy a
"dash cover"- usually carpet like material, but sometimes plastic, suitably
shaped, which fits (usually with Velcro)on top of the old dashboard. The
carpet like material is usually available (from order) from autostores and
large "discount" stores (Costco, WalMart).
