Slacken the bolts that hold the steering rack clamp to the chassis rail.
Get them quite loose but don't remove them.
With the front jacked up and the steering shaft all bolted up correctly,
spin the wheel a few times from lock to lock.  This will align the shaft and
rack correctly.  Then look and see which side bracket has a gap.  That is
the one to add the shim to before you tighten it all down again.
