Having a Mk1, I'll let the "later" contingent
"work" the rear muffler hanger.
On the thermostadt...
....considering your geographic weather, I'd do without and opt for a
blanking
sleeve, closing the cylinder head/water
pump "bypass" (that little hose between
front/bottom of cyl. head and top of water pump) for better cooling.
I'd also go with the later many bladed
plastic fan for max cooling flow to the
rad in the event heavy traffic is in the
cards.
